Anyone looking for a penpal?

Title says it all.  I have one penal, but I find that I'm jonesing for another one.  Please?  Anyone?  Just shoot me an email if interested!

09/10/1987
Gender:
Female
Sexuality:
Straight
Sign:
Virgo
Location:
USA – grand old North Carolina!

English, a smattering of French and Japanese
Looking for:
Penpals and all-around friends
E-mail Address:
elnich@bellsouth.net
Do you want new livejournal friends?:
Sure!
About Me:
Hi there!  Hmm..what to say?  I can’t really summarize myself up in a few words.  I’m a goof and a dork and random points, and I worry far too much for my own good.  I write a lot, read a lot, and generally like horsing around with friends when I have the time (being a college student leaves little time for that haha).  But I think the best thing ever is opening up your mailbox to find a brand new letter.
Hobbies/Interests:
Reading when I have the time, writing, sleeping…general stuff
Music:
It all depends on my mood.  I’m a huge fan of Classical and Celtic stuff (the Chieftains rock my socks off!), as well as random movie soundtracks.  Five for Fighting is amazing as well.
Books:
Anything I can actually get the time to read.  Fantasy is my choice, though I dislike the Twilight series (*ducks from all the rabid fans*) and I won’t say no to a good mystery.  Though she’s more of a young adult writer, Tamora Pierce is amazing, and I’m getting into Anne McCaffrey.
TV:
LOST (best show EVER), cartoons (to feed my silly side), but that’s really all I have time to watch anymore.
Movies:
Comic book-based movies (X-men, Wolverine, etc), and basically anything beyond a chick flick or things with absolutely no plot.  Really, I’m a horrible judge of movies, and I adore a lot of movies that most people can’t stand.
Tattoos/piercings:
Only have my ears pierced – I freak out with needles, is why ;)
How many penpals do you have?:
I only have one, so far, but she’s awesome and I long for more
How many pen pals do you want?:
As many as will have me
How long are your letters?:
Usually a couple of full pages
How long are your emails?:
Pretty short, not nearly as long as my hand-written letters.
Do you hand-write or type?:
Hand-write – I prefer snail-mail any day of the week to email.  It builds up the suspense and surprise.
How long does it take you to reply to an email?:
Maybe a day or two?
What age would you like your pen pal to be?:
Doesn’t really matter, but I guess around my age?
Would you like them to be male or female?:
Doesn’t matter at all!
Where would you like them to be from?:
Outside of the United States is preferable, but if you’re in the USA don’t sweat it.

Random

I know I haven't posted in a long while.  Honestly, I blame the chaos that is school at the moment, and the looming terror that is May 9th.  May 9th, incidentally, is the day I graduate with a BA in History with a minor in Political Science.  It's absolutely terrifying, mostly because I have no idea what I'm going to do after graduation (assuming everything goes smoothly and nothing happens to make me not graduate).  Just writing about it makes me break out in a cold sweat.

Yes, this is a really random topic, but something that has been on my mind for a long time.  How does anyone figure out what they want to do for the rest of their life?

In any case, that's my predicament at the moment.  Any suggestions?

Friendiness!

Woo-hoo!  I have two new friends, mostly thanks to Megan's attempts at pimping me out (in the words of one of my awesome new friends).  Thanks, Megan.  Thanks a lot.  :P

Writer's Block: Self-Indulgent

If you had to give up one indulgence for 40 days, what would it be?

I'm already doing that.  It's called "Lent".

And the answer is soda.

Sigh

Note to self, and to anyone who may be reading this blog (for whatever reason...yes, Megan, I'm looking at you...)

The dentist is EVIL.  There's something about near-strangers sticking their hands in my mouth that really unnerves me.  And asking me questions and expecting me to answer when there is a huge freaking needle buried somewhere in my gumline is not so pleasant either.

My last cavity was filled today, so I have six months (give or take) before I have to go back.  My suffering is at a temporary recession.  Megan's, on the other hand...well, I'll be thinking of you, Fuzzy Fingers.  Don't give up, because you have to go see Watchmen with me.  HAVE.  TO.

Permanently Confused

One of the problems that I have in life is that I'm permanently confused -- hence the subject of this post. I have a full week off from school for spring break, and despite the fact that it's only the beginning of the week, I've been confused more times than I can count.

For example:

- It's snowed about three inches here at my house, and yet I'm on so-called Spring Break. What happened to the beach and/or Cancun? (I wouldn't go near any popular Spring Break hangouts, but that's a story for another day.) Instead of spending my week off in floral sundresses (of which I have exactly none, but that is beside the point), I am bundled up in old sweatshirts and nice warm, thick socks. Cold feet and Spring Break do not mix, unless one is talking about the variety of cold feet peculiar to weddings, but then again I digress.

- My parents object strongly to my staying up late/sleeping in. I just don't get it. They know I'm a college student. They know that I'm regularly pulling all-nighters at school, so what's so different about doing it here at home? I'm not exactly keeping anyone awake. How does my sleeping in hurt anyone? They act offended. Confusion abounds.

- Megan ( [info]squirrels_oh_no ) has the supernatural ability to type with a large cat on her hands. Ask for the pictures. I have no idea how she does it. I have since dubbed her Fuzzy Fingers.

This can go on, and will once I remember all of the confusing instances that I've been through lately. (In addtion to being permanently confused, I am also insanely forgetful. So yes. If I remember, I'll update. Maybe.

Over and out,
Bethany

Hegel

In the wake of studying for my Modern Political Thought midterm, I have realized something.

I absolutely hate Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel.

To give everyone an example of just how painful he is to read and analyze, German students prefer to read him in English, because all of his sentences are so very long (and all verbs in German are at the end of sentences, making it quite confusing).

One of his sentences reads as such:

178. SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS exists in itself and for itself, in that, and by the fact that it exists for another self-consciousness; that is to say, it is recognized. The conception of this its unity in its duplication, of infinitude realizing itself in self-consciousness, has many sides to it and encloses within it elements of varied significance. Thus its moments must on the one hand be strictly kept apart in detailed distinctiveness, and, on the other, in this distinction must, at the same time, also be taken as not distinguished, or must always be accepted and understood in their opposite sense. This double meaning of what is distinguished lies in the nature of self-consciousness:  of its being infinite, or directly the opposite of the determinateness in which it is fixed. The detailed exposition of the notion of this spiritual unity in its duplication will bring before us the process of Recognition.

Confused?  Me too.  I like Machiavelli much better.  More death, less confusion.  Much simpler, no?

Poor Fishy o' Mine

My beta fish, Bartok Nicolai, died suddenly while I was changing his water.

Megan -- of Squirrels-oh-no! fame -- helped me bury him in a plastic baggie behind our dorm, because flushing just didn't seem right for my little buddy.  I'm just glad the police didn't happen by, because they would have seen us crouched behind a light pole digging with a plastic baggie in our hands.

He will be missed.

Not a Happy Person Here

So, I'm not happy right now.  And no, it's not because Megan made me watch Sunshine which has a completely scary ending.  No, I can deal with that.

It's because the girl who shares me and my roommate's bathroom (known hereafter as our suitemate) habitually takes showers with her boyfriend in our bathroom.  Half the time they have sex, but according to the suitemate they're just "talking".  I don't care.  Really.  It's none of my business what they do in there, just that they're doing it in a shower only meant for the female inhabitants of these two rooms.

So today after I got downstairs from watching the movie with Megan (*shudder*), they were in the shower again.  Honestly, I don't see how two people can fit into such a tiny shower.  I got absolutely fed up and threw my sneaker at the (very thin) wooden door, and the suitemate starts cussing.

Next thing I know, she's out of the shower and is pounding on our hall door, demanding to know if there's a problem.  YES, THERE IS A PROBLEM.  There, I said it.  I told her that I didn't appreciate them being in the shower together, and she got an attitude and made up all these excuses that they were "just talking". Yeah, right.  She also objected to the fact that I called her fiance her boyfriend.  So I politely apologized, and we closed the door as the suitemate stalked off.

Moral of the story: stupid people shouldn't be in college.  Or should be put down once they reach an age at which their stupidity is visible.  Either way.

Hmm...

So, this is my first LJ post.  Exciting, no?  I'll eventually put amusing stories up for all to hear (well, read, as the case may be) but for now...here I am, world!
